french language tuition
Is a month-long language program worth it?

I am considering a beginner French program that lasts the month of August. I do not have to pay tuition but I do have to cover my flight and housing, which adds up to around $1500. In addition to food, I will expect to spend around $2100 for one month. Is it worth it, especially in a dying economy? Will I get *that* much out of the experience in terms of language (class is 6 hours each weekday) and cultural immersion? Or should I save up my money for after graduation (I’m going to be a senior in college)? Have you had an experience like this or heard of someone who did; what did they think?

Save the money, not worth it

Kids Online French – Kids learn french Easily

French is a beautiful language and has traditionally been learned by kids at school in many English speaking countries. French is spoken in places like Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Quebec and parts of Northern Africa. French is one of the more difficult foreign languages to learn for adults or children, however with certain kids online French techniques being used, children can find it a little easier to learn.

The following example shows an easy method of memorizing French words. This is called a link-word technique, a kind of memory memorization method that can be used to learn any new language. The edge that the link-word technique has is how French words are linked to an English word by using matching sounds between the words.

As you read the following example, try and imagine that you are stood right where the example is taking place. Retain the capitalized key words in your mind and try and remember the details. Think about it several times and let it sink in until you can recall it without reading.

English word = chicken
French word = le poulet

Visualize a CHICKEN explaining to a giant PULLEY how it wants to be lifted in the air.

Of course, this is a silly scenario, but it causes your mind to remember the words permanently. It does not even have to be exact. Focus on the sounds created when pronouncing the French words, for this is the key to the link word technique.

This is just one technique that can be used for Kids Online French and can help children learn to speak the beautiful french language with relative ease.

What’s the nicest town in which to study french in the North of France?

I want to do a french language course in France, and want a nice, picturesque town, possibly coastal, that’s easily accessable from South East England. Any ideas?

Lille is a very alive university town with a lot of culture, shows, museum, and a very busy shopping centre. You can get there easily and fast by taking the Eurostar from Ashford or Ebbsfleet in Kent (South East), or Saint Pancras in London, but it is inland and very cold in the winter and can be stuffy in the summer. The Catholic university runs established french courses for foreign adults.

On the coast you have the very picturesque town of Boulogne-sur-Mer that has direct sailings to Dover and runs a variety of excellent language courses at its Summer University.

It has a lovely old town with ramparts, a belfry, a castle which shelters an interesting museum. There is the remarkable Nausicaa live marine museum near the harbour and it has a superb sandy beach where you can do various sea linked activities such as wind surfing in the summer. There are coastal walks and the pretty litle resort of Wimereux is a five minutes drive away North. On a clear day you can see the English coast from there.
